Distance Education in the tourism sector
The tourism sector is a large and varied sector with many very different stakeholders. It
includes an array that ranges from
- very large companies such as major airlines or hotel chains with thousands of
employees worldwide, to
- the vast majority of small and micro companies that act only locally, such as
restaurants, bars, local guides, rental companies, etc.
This varied picture demonstrates how different the required skills and the possibilities for
distance education by the stakeholders are. The stakeholders in the tourism sector have
therefore different needs and different options, depending on their sub-sector, size and local
reach.
