Intercultural communication
The most obvious intercultural
communication aspect is language.
Therefore training staff in at least
a second language (most often
English) is essential for any
international tourism stakeholder

Language training is also widely available as distance learning wit online courses being
offered by many providers and also continuous VET schools and individuals offering distance
learning courses via live video links to teach languages.
Cultural Diversity
Another aspects of intercultural communication is cultural diversity. The UNESCO defines
cultural diversity as “It refers to the manifold ways in which the cultures of groups and
societies find expression. These expressions are passed on within and among groups and
societies. Cultural diversity is made manifest not only through the varied ways in which the
cultural heritage of humanity is expressed, augmented and transmitted through the variety of
cultural expressions, but also through diverse modes of artistic creation, production,
dissemination, distribution and enjoyment, whatever the means and technologies used.”
