Assessment methods and tools
Most important for the right distance training in soft skills is to firstly to identify which soft
skills an individual already posses and which skills gaps exist. For this identification an array
of assessment methods and assessment tools exist, which are categorized and escribed here:
Tech-based Assessments
The advantage of skills assessment tests is that they are usually reliable, objective, affordable
and provide valuable insight into a persons’ skills. They help to check whether the person
really has the skills shown in the resumé and whether a person has the skills for a specific job
position.
Tests bring relatively quick results which can be linked to formal education standards. A
disadvantage could be that some people do have negative past experiences with examinations
and tests in formal education and are not able to show their actual skills in a test situation
anymore.
Tech-based assessments or
online assessments enable
persons’ access to the assessment
from potentially any
geographical location and at any
time. Moreover, tech-based
assessments could be more cost
effective due to scaling and
automatization than other
methods.
