3.1.1. E-Mail:
It is the most frequently used form of communication in the online education environment. It
is used for file transfers to transmit written and visual training materials as well as to pass on
personal messages for one-to-one communication. However, feedback in student teacher
communication is limited. Therefore, voice e-mail is also used in some educational settings.
3.1.2. Distribution Lists:
It refers to the message delivery system made from a central server to predetermined
addresses. The opportunity to reach more people simultaneously provides an advantage over
e-mail. In this way, trainees can establish discussion groups as well as having the opportunity
to communicate one-on-one.
3.1.3. E-Conference System:
It describes the audio-visual online education environment operating on an advanced and fast
network infrastructure. Although it is an effective distance education technology, the high
cost required by this infrastructure reduces its prevalence.
3.1.4. Chat Rooms:
They are virtual environments where two or more users simultaneously share information by
using written communication. The characters written by each participant are seen by the
others. The advanced chat rooms offer similar opportunities to the trainees with the e-
conference system.
3.1.5. Audio and Video Systems:
These systems utilize the knowledge and applications in educational materials such as
television and video and transfer them to internet-based distance education. It provides the
trainer with the opportunity to transfer to the trainee the visual and audio recordings prepared
in advance via the internet without much effort. It requires high-speed network infrastructure
and standard computer and software infrastructure for trainees.
