1.3. ADVANTAGES OF ONLINE EDUCATION
a. Different learning techniques
In formal education, teaching and learning methods are limited, but in online education / e-
learning systems, tens, hundreds of different teaching and learning methods can be possible
with digital tools. For example; information can be better grasped with interactive videos,
education can be made more fun with various gamifications, and exams can be made more
educational with interesting visuals.
b. Flexibility
Eliminating distances is one of the obvious advantages of online education. You can access
information or lessons anytime, anywhere and they are usually presented in smaller and more
manageable chunks. The fact that online education is modular and independent of time and
space reflects its flexibility. In addition, it provides the opportunity to stop and continue
wherever you want, which is not possible in formal education.
c. Access to more people, more data at the same time
In formal education, a higher quality education can be provided only classes with smaller
populations, but this is not the case in online education methods. In addition, there is no data
restriction in online education as long as a suitable infrastructure is provided (internet,
computer, etc.).
d. Elimination of geographical restrictions
The same educational content can be accessed from different countries and different
geographies. It reduces the disruption of education in areas with security problems. In
extraordinary situations (war, lockdown, etc.), the student's learning can be continued. It
provides options for people who are restricted from certain communities due to their cultural
and religious beliefs.
