               Self-assessment

In a self-assessment, the recipient evaluates his or her own skills. The methodical approach is

widely used in the context of competence recognition procedures.
The advantage is that the person knows best what professional activities and tasks he or she

has carried out or can cope with. Sometimes it is difficult to be able to retrieve them, so
giving clues is useful. However, the disadvantage is that the information cannot be checked

and the method cannot claim any validity. A capacity of abstraction is also required for a self-
               assessment.

                  SOURCED FROM ADOBE STOCK 18

Self-assessment helps people to identify their strengths and weaknesses and may stimulate

interest in learning and professional development. In the context of validation, self-assessment

means that the persons themselves give information about their skills, competences and
knowledge based on their own judgement (e.g. by answering questions like “How good are

               you at this?”).
